Central air conditioning relies on two specific coils - condensing and evaporator.

Both of these coils work together to convert warm air into cool air.

Here’s how that process works:

First, the system pulls warm air from your home into the ductwork. The air then travels through the ductwork to the evaporator coils.

The warm air blows across the evaporator coils where the refrigerant absorbs the heat. This absorption effectively cools the air down - tempering it for release back into your home!

Once the refrigerant has absorbed heat from the air, it moves to the outdoor condenser. Here, the condenser expels the heat outdoors. Then, once cooled, the refrigerant returns to the evaporator coil to repeat the process!

2 Main Types Of Ducted Central Air Conditioning Systems:

Central Air Split System

The Central Air Split System comprises two units - an outdoor metal cabinet and an indoor cabinet. The outdoor cabinet holds the condenser and compressor. The indoor cabinet contains the evaporator.

PRO TIP: Does your home already have a furnace installed? If so, a Central Air Split System is probably your most affordable central A/C option!

Central Air Packaged Unit

A Central Air Packaged System only requires one outdoor unit. This single unit holds the condenser, compressor and evaporator together.

PRO TIP: If you’re looking for an all-in-one heating and cooling unit - this is probably your best option!

Air conditioning is more important than ever!

In Canada, it's common for summer temperatures to reach 30 degrees and humidity levels to hit 40.

Exposure to these hot, humid days can cause dangerous health conditions (i.e. heatstroke, heat exhaustion).

If you haven’t installed an air conditioner in your home this year, we encourage you to take the plunge!

Air conditioning is one of the most effective tools for

a) Reducing humidity,

b) Providing better sleep at night,

c) Improving indoor air quality,

d) Reducing the risk of heatstroke and other heat-related conditions,

e) Decreasing work stress and

f) Improving your summer experience!

Air conditioning can also prevent dehydration and heatstroke for your pets!

And while air conditioning alone provides many benefits, central cooling offers even more!

One of the main reasons homeowners choose central air for its low maintenance needs.

These systems are fairly self-sufficient. They need very little professional care.

Regularly, we only recommend,

  • Annual preventative maintenance
  • Annual duct cleaning,
  • Regular filter changes (every 90 days).

With this regular maintenance, your central air conditioner should continue functioning optimally for 15-20 years!
